Ebenezer Baptist Church is formed.

1887

[1890-Barnet] The congregation was founded by previously enslaved people from Virginia in 1871 [1868-Barnet]. It met initially outdoors on Ottawa Court, then in rented halls, before moving to the former Springfield Street Congregational Church at 157 West Springfield Street. Peter Randolph is the first minister. The church goes on to serve African-Americans from the South who come to Boston during the mid-20th century. Rev. William Ravenell serves as minister from January 1929 until his death in 1966. The last service in the church is held on February 23, 2020, the building is sold for residential use, and the congregation moves to Abington in 2024.
